The Bison Project Timeline

January 2008:

  • Construction has started on converting former storage space into one of the new galleries to be used in The Bison.

February 2008:

  • Ongoing conservation on objects to prepare them for safe display
  • Onsite visit from conservator to work on objects in collection
  • Ongoing construction to convert East Storage space to new gallery
  • New beaded work by Jackie Parsons commissioned for exhibition
  • Begin to receive loans for exhibition from public and private collections  

March 2008:

  • Ongoing conservation
  • Ongoing construction
  • Building of new casework and open storage drawers begins
  • Didactic texts and object labels written (in production through August) 

April 2008:

  • Ongoing conservation
  • Ongoing construction
  • Building of new casework and drawers continues
  • Mount-making, stands, mannequins, etc. begins (?)
  • Graphics for exhibition are created (continues through August)
  • Commission all other furniture and objects needed for exhibition
  • Graphics for exhibition refined (in production through August)

May 2008:  

  • Ongoing conservation
  • Onsite visit from conservator
  • Ongoing construction

June 2008:

  • Ongoing conservation
  • Construction of new gallery and other design elements completed
  • Installation of exhibition begins

July 2008:

  • Installation of exhibition continues
  • Ongoing conservation

August 2008:

  • Installation of exhibition continues
  • Ongoing conservation
  • Onsite visit from conservator 

September 2008:  

  • Installation of exhibition continues
  • Ongoing conservation

October 2008:  

  • Ongoing conservation
  • Full scale diorama of bison hunt completed and installed
  • Exhibit grand opening!
